Shanghai was the first city in Mainland China to experience the introduction of stocks, stock trading, and stock exchanges. Shanghai has been a center of stock trading since the 1860s. Shanghai established the Shanghai Share Brokers Association, an early form of stock exchange, in 1891.Shanghai became the Far East’s financial hub in the 1920s, with the establishment of the Shanghai Securities Goods Exchange and the Shanghai Chinese Securities Exchange, where both Chinese and foreign investors could trade stocks, bonds, and futures. Shanghai Chinese Security Exchange Co. was renamed Shanghai Securities Exchange Co. in 1946.
The index was launched on July 15, 1991.The Shanghai Stock Exchange is a Chinese stock exchange or bourse based in the city of Shanghai. It is one of the three stock exchanges operating independently in the People’s Republic of China. The other two are the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. But the contrast to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Shanghai Stock Exchange is still not entirely open to foreign investors due to tight capital account controls exercised by the Chinese mainland authorities.
The Shanghai Stock Exchange 50 Index is a stock index that represents the top 50 businesses on the Shanghai Stock Exchange based on “float-adjusted” capitalization and other criteria. To be a constituent of the SSE 50 Index, it must also be a constituent of the SSE 180 Index, making SSE 50 a sub-index of the SSE 180 Index.
The SSE 50 was recognized as the exchange’s blue-chip index.
