The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) is a Canadian stock exchange with headquarters in Toronto, Ontario. The TSX, which was established in 1861, is Canada’s premier stock market, with over 1,500 businesses listed, including those in the oil, mining, technology, and real estate industries. International listings and exchange-traded instruments are also available on the exchange.
The S&P/TSX Composite is the headline index for the Canadian equity market. It is the broadest in the S&P/TSX family and is the basis for multiple sub-indices including but not limited to equity indices, Income Trust Indices, Capped Indices, GICS Indices and market cap based indices. The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) serves as the distributor of both real-time and historical data for this index. The S&P/TSX Composite Index is a benchmark equity index that tracks around 230 of Canada’s largest public companies.
The S&P/TSX 60 Index is a stock market index of 60 large companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Maintained by the Canadian S&P Index Committee, a unit of Standard & Poor’s, it exposes the investor to ten industry sectors. Combined with the S&P/TSX Completion Index it forms the S&P/TSX Composite Index.
