EXCEL IMREAL FUNCTION

The IMREAL function in Excel returns the real factor of a complex value.
In other words, the function will return a for the complex number a + bi.

Syntax :

=IMREAL( inumber )

Parameters :

  • The arguments inumber is a Complex Number.
  • The inumber input to the Excel Imreal function can be either:
  • A straightforward number;
  • A complicated number surrounded by quote marks, such as “5+3i”;
  • A cell that contains a complex number or a numeric value;
  • A result of another Excel function or calculation.

Example :

The Excel Imreal function is used in the sample worksheets below to return the real coefficient of five distinct complex integers.
The integers 6 in cell B3 equals the complicated number 6+0i; the example in cell B5 utilises the Excel Complex Function to generate the complicated number 4+i.

  • #NUM! – Occurs if the given inumber argument is not recognised as a complex number.
  • #VALUE! – Occurs if the given inumber parameter is a logical value.
