EXCEL GEOMEAN FUNCTION

The Geomean function in Excel computes the geometric mean of a given set of variables.

Syntax :

=GEOMEAN( number1[number2], ..,)

Parameters :

The following parameters are :

  • Where the number parameters are one or more positive numeric values (or arrays of numeric values) for which the geometric mean is to be calculated. The function may accept up to 255 number parameters in current versions of Excel (Excel 2007 and beyond), but only 30 number arguments in Excel 2003. Each parameter, on the other hand, can be an array of values or a range of cells, each of which can contain several values.

Example :

Cell B1 in the spreadsheet on the right displays a simple example of the Excel Geomean Function, which is used to compute the geometric mean of the data in cells A1-A5.
In this case, the Geomean method gives 1.622671112.

  • #NUM! – Occurs if any of the numeric values supplied are negative.
  • #VALUE! – This error occurs if any of the given values are not numeric.
